Last season for the Clippers, Jordan averaged 12 points, 15.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. It seems likely that the Dallas Mavericks will be the number one team pursuing his services. Also, the Golden State Warriors will be pursuing him. According to Marc Stein of the NY Times. The Warriors can pay him $5.3 million, which is the taxpayer mid-level exception.
In 2015, the Clippers and Mavericks had been in deliberations without success. Then, teammate Chris Paul and current Head Coach Doc Rivers influenced Jordan to remain with the team. He remained with the Clippers. This will be the third time that Jordan has hit the free agent market in his career.
Jordan has spent all ten seasons of his NBA career with the Clippers. He was picked in the second round by them in 2008. If Jordan were to join the Mavericks, he would add strength to a tired Mavericks lineup. This is what the projected starting five would look if Jordan signs:
JORDAN’S ADDITION COULD STRENGTHEN MAVS FIRST UNIT
PG: Dennis Smith Jr. SG: Wesley Matthews SF: Luka Doncic PF: Harrison Barnes C: DeAndre Jordan/Dirk Nowitzki
That lineup wouldn’t be bad for the Mavericks next season. Jordan would give Smith Jr. and Doncic a lob target at the rim. Despite the Warriors interest in Jordan, the Mavericks remain the favorites to sign him.
