World Cup 2018: South Korea vs Germany Preview

Germany took a big leap to salvage their tournament with the last minute Toni Kroos’ goal that put them over Sweden. This momentum will carry over to the match against South Korea where they look to seal and secure a spot in the Round of 16. However, Korea also celebrated Kroos’ goal as it kept them alive and a win over the Germans can also place them in the next round.

The defending champions were close to being Spain in Brazil 2014. However they have escaped that situation and are now ready to continue building on from that situation with Sweden.

For the Germans, defender Jerome Boateng will miss the game serving a red-card suspension. In addition, Sebastian Rudy will be out with a broken nose that required surgery. Mats Hummels will be back in action after missing Sweden’s match with a neck injury.

For the South Koreans, Ki Sung-yueng will miss the match with a calf injury. The pressure will be on Son Heung-min to lead the power and attach for South Korea.

Line-Ups:

Germany: Neuer; Hector, Hummels, Süle, Kimmich; Khedira, Kroos, Goretzka; Ozil, Werner, Reus.

South Korea: Cho; Lee Yong, Yun, Hong, YG Kim; Jang, Jung, Koo; Lee Jae-sung, Moon, Son.

Predictions:

Germany has the momentum. Korea has the need. Germany’s squad, compared to South Korea’s, is much higher in quality. For this reason, the history is on Germany’s side.

South Korea 1 – Germany 2
