Top Five 2018 NHL Draft Picks
A defining moment for many young men occurred this evening. Hundreds of prospects gathered together at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, all with one goal in mind: making the NHL.
1. Rasmus Dahlin
Sliding into the number one slot for the Buffalo Sabres was Rasmus Dahlin, which didn’t really come as a shock to most of us. Choosing a defenseman so early in the draft is risky business, but the young Swede has certainly proved himself.
2. Andrei Svechnikov
Up next were the Carolina Hurricanes, who snatched Russian right-wing Andrei Svechnikov. Scoring 40 goals in 44 games, it’s almost surprising he wasn’t Buffalo’s first selection.
3. Jesperi Kotkaniemi
The Montreal Canadiens first choice was Jesperi Kotkaniemi, a promising centre from Pori, Finland. An intelligent skater who seems to be dripping with potential, some think he’s still not ready to be playing in the NHL. However, only time will tell.
4. Brady Tkachuk
The first American to be drafted was 18-year-old Brady Tkachuk by the Ottawa Senators. Following in the footsteps of his father, Keith Tkachuk, who played for the St. Louis Blues, people are curious to see if Brady will live up to the potential.
5. Barrett Hayton
Arizona’s first round pick Barrett Hayton may have been a bit of a surprise to some. But racking up 60 points in 63 games is no easy feat, so maybe some of them should reconsider.
