Major news out of Tampa Bay as Bucs’ Quarterback Jameis Winston faces a three game suspension. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the young QB has been suspended for violating the League’s Personal Conduct Policy.

Winston’s Infraction

The violation stems from a 2016 conflict between Winston and a male Uber driver in the Scottsdale Area. According to the Driver, Winston acted inappropriately and at one point grabbed the driver’s groin.

“Winston reached over and just grabbed [the driver’s] crotch”, the report states. The Bucs QB proceeded to keep his hand there for “three to five seconds” before the violated driver asked him to remove his hand.

Although the alleged event occurred in 2016, the NFL didn’t become aware of it until November of 2017. Upon hearing the surprising news, the NFL launched a full investigation into the matter.

After closing it’s investigation this week, the NFL has levied a three game suspension on the Buccaneers signal caller.

What This Means For the Winston-Less Buccaneers

With Winston potentially missing the first three games of the season, the Bucs are in a tough spot. As of now, Ryan Fitzpatrick is slated to slide into the starters role in Jameis’ absence. Although an experienced quarterback, Fitzpatrick looks to be a painful downgrade from the Pro Bowl QB.

The veteran journey-man will face a tough three game stint in the interim as the Bucs face the Saints, Eagles and Steelers to start the campaign. With three reigning division champs to open the season, Tampa will severely miss their young QB’s leadership and passion.

Already a relatively weak roster in a stacked NFC South, this news comes as a massive blow to Bucs Nation. Hoping for a bounce back season after going 5-11 in 2017, the Bucs are already off to a less than stellar start.
