Jaren Jackson, Jr. Selected 4th Overall In The 2018 NBA Draft By Memphis Grizzlies

Jaren Jackson Jr is probably the most complete big men in the draft at 6’11 with a 7’4 wingspan, at Michigan State. Jackson played as a big, primarily as a stretch four. He helped lead the Spartans to a 30-5 record averaging 11 points, 6 Rebounds, 3 blocks while shooting 51 % from the field and close to 40 % from behind the three-point line. He also shot 79 % from the Free throw line which is impressive for a big.
He’s the best defensive player in the draft with the ability to guard the pick and roll and rotate on switches. His ability to block and protect the rim is uncanny. Here are some of his strengths and weaknesses.

STRENGTHS:
-Defensive awareness and IQ is above average.
(His timing on blocks and ability to guard the perimeter with his length and athleticism to contest shots)
– Shooting can space the floor.
( shooting at 39 % from the three is vital in today’s game)
– Post scoring.
( Jackson is very effective in the post making 22 out of 30 shots)

WEAKNESSES:
-Physicality
( seems to get bullied inside and on box outs when grabbing a rebound)
-Jump shot
( Shooting form is a bit unorthodox, slow release)
-Limited offensive skills
( no go to post move, lack of footwork)

PROJECTION:
Top 6 pick in 2018 NBA Draft.

SUMMARY:
Potential to be an all-star once he develops a post move. Tremendous upside and has the ability to be an Alonzo Mourning type player.
