Forward Winner of the Award Two Years in a Row

David Pastrnak was named the Czech player of the year, receiving the Zlata Hokejka Award for the second year in a row. The Golden Hockey Stick or Zlata Hokejka is presented annually to the top hockey player from the Czech Republic.

The 22-year-old winger scored 35 goals this season. Additionally, he had 45 assists for a total of 80 points in 82 games. The 2017-18 season was a career high for the Bruin. In the postseason, the Czech player racked up 20 points in 12 games. In Game 2 of the first round of the playoffs, he scored six points. In doing so, Pastrnak surpassed Wayne Gretzky as the youngest player ever in the NHL to accomplish such a feat.

Other finalists

The top three finalists for the 2018 Golden Hockey Stick remained unchanged from 2017. In second place was Philadelphia Flyers forward Jakub Voracek. Fellow Bruin David Krejci finished third for the award.

During the 2017-18 season, David Krejci scored 17 goals. In addition, he had 27 assists, for a total of 44 points in 64 games. Krejci also ranked second from the Boston Bruins with a 51.91 faceoff winning percentage. During the 12 postseason games, the 32 year old center had another three goals and seven assists.

World Championship duo

Both Pastrnak and Krejci were on the Czech Republic Team for the 2018 World Championships. The two were linemates. Pastrnak scored a total of four goals, two of which were game winners. He also had two assists for a total of six points in five games. Krejci, on the other hand, had six points in five games by the way of one goal and five assists.
