World Cup 2018: France beat Australia

Kazan, Russia- France get very lucky after controversial VAR call helps them beat Australia.

Australia was set for a 1-1 draw after both teams were awarded penalties in a gap of five minutes. Les Bleus forward Antoine Griezmann went down in the 18-yard box after a tackle from Josh Risdon in the 54th minute. But once play stopped, the referee checked replays using VAR and perceived that Griezmann had been fouled. Therefore, he coolly placed the free kick past Ryan who guessed the wrong way. Mile Jedinak sent France goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris in the wrong direction to level the scoring at 1-1 in the 62nd minute. However, Paul Pogba scored the winner in the 80th minute with a flick of the ball over Australian keeper Ryan and across the goal line.

It was a game in which France had 13 attempts on goal with 6 on target. On the other hand, Australia had 3 shots and 1 on target. In addition, Australia should have earned a point in the end for how well they defended. However, they couldn’t prevent France from scoring their second. They’ll have to win their next game against Denmark on Tuesday.
