The Seminole Is A Gifted Playmaker That Will Help The Chargers’ D

Defensive back Derwin James has had a rocky tenure with Florida State. A player that from the beginning has had big expectations but struggled with staying on the field. Still, James has the ability to be a gifted playmaker, and that is what the Chargers expect from him.

The defensive back position is one that helps the Los Angeles defense in numerous ways. James did it all in his freshman season with the Seminoles as he forced two fumbles, collected 4.5 sacks, recovered two fumbles, defended four passes and collected 91 tackles.

James’ Second Season With The Seminoles Is Worrisome

One of the knocks on James is the injury he sustained before his sophomore season. In September of 2016, it was revealed that James would be undergoing surgery to repair a lateral meniscus tear and cartilage damage. The gifted playmaker ended up only playing two games for the Seminoles.

It’s important to note that this injury is the only serious one in his football career. James does not have a consistent history of injuries, and that is worth mentioning because it seems to be the only knock on him. The kid has talent, and no one can take that away from him.

The Comeback Is All That James Had In His Mind

James got a chance to prove himself the following season and played all 12 games. James has shown so far that his injury is a thing of the past. The Chargers will get a player that can do whatever they ask of him. The ability that he has to make plays is special.

He was first-team All-ACC in 2016 and 2017 for Florida State. Before committing to the Seminoles, James was the top recruit in the country. What separates him from other defensive backs is his 6’2 frame and 4.47 speed that gives him that ballhawk ability.
