Mets Sweep D-Backs To Win Fifth Straight
The Mets have swept the Arizona Diamondbacks to win their fifth straight. After a 4-2 win today, the Mets are now 16-13 on the year and currently sit in first place in the NL East. Jacob deGrom got the start today. deGrom went five innings allowing one run on one hit with three walks and six strikeouts. deGrom left Sunday’s game early with right side tightness. He has an MRI tomorrow to see what the next steps will be. For the D-Backs, Riley Smith got the start. Smith went four innings allowing two runs on four hits with one walk and one strikeout.
The Mets will have an off-day on Monday before the Baltimore Orioles come into town. Arizona will return to the desert to face-off with the Miami Marlins.
Game Recap
The Mets offense came alive and got the scoring started in the third. Francisco Lindor hit a sac fly which was followed shortly by a Michael Conforto RBI single. In the sixth, Patrick Mazeika walked with the bases loaded to give the Mets another run. And in the seventh, Dom Smith put the icing on the cake with an RBI single.
For Arizona, their offense continued to struggle. Their lone two runs came from a Nick Ahmed groundout and a solo homer Asdrubal Cabrera.
Edwin Diaz came in and shut the door for the Mets to give them the series sweep. The Mets will look to continue their momentum against the Orioles this week.
