Red Sox Bring Back Alex Cora As Manager
The Red Sox have brought back Alex Cora as their manager. Cora is coming off serving a year-long suspension for his role in the Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal. He previously served as the bench coach for the Astros and was commonly believed as the “mastermind” behind everything. He was also disciplined for his alleged role with the Red Sox cheating scandal, however, the brunt of his punishment was from events in Houston. With AJ Hinch also back in baseball, it was only a matter of time before someone snagged Cora. The common belief was that Ron Roenicke, who served as Red Sox manager in 2020, would be a place-holder for Cora to return in 2021.
Impact Of Alex Cora
Cora came over to the Red Sox in 2018 and was an instant success. The Red Sox dominated baseball in 2018 on their way to their first World Series title since 2013. Cora was beloved by the fans, players, and front office staff in Boston. However, when news came to light of the Astros sign-stealing scandal, Cora was backed into a corner. He and the Red Sox agreed to part ways in light of the scandal, and he was later suspended for one season by Major League Baseball. As soon as the suspension was announced, it was almost certain Cora wold be back with the Red Sox once the suspension was lifted. He’ll look to lead the Red Sox back into the postseason after an awful 2020 performance.
