Offense Erupts As Mets Sweep Twins

The Mets offense erupted for 14 runs against the Minnesota Twins. They swept both games and have won the season series 3-1. Jason Vargas got the start for the Mets. He went six innings while allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts. For the Twins, Martin Perez got the nod. Perez went six innings allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits with five strikeouts. For the Mets, they will head out to the West Coast to take on the Giants. For the Twins, they will stay home as the Oakland A’s come into town.

Game Recap

The Twins got the scoring started thanks to a single from Miguel Sano. In the third, the Mets would get on the board with a homer from Amed Rosario (his 10th of the year). Nelson Cruz would respond with a solo homer of his own the following half-inning.

After Todd Frazier tied the game, Mitch Garver struck again with another homer against the Mets (his 15th of the year and 4th against the Mets this year). With the score standing 3-2 in favor of the Twins, Dom Smith came in with two runners on and launched his ninth homer of the year to give the Mets the lead.

Once the eighth inning came around, that’s when the Mets offense broke out. After two runs scored on a fielding error from Eddie Rosario, Jeff McNeil and Dom Smith each added another run. Then, Pete Alonso came up and LAUNCHED his 31st homer of the year into the third deck. In the ninth, the Mets would add on three more runs thanks to Amed Rosario (who had four hits with four runs and three RBIs on the days) and Adeiny Hechavarria. Chris Mazza would shut the door as the Mets would beat the Twins 14-4.

Are The Mets Back?

With today’s win, the Mets have now won four in a row and are 6-4 in their last 10. With a strong series in San Francisco, the Mets could prove they are still in the playoff race this year. They currently sit 13.0 GB in the NL East and 5.0 GB in the NL Wild Card race.
