Orioles Select Adley Rutschman At Number 1 Overall
With the first selection in the 2019 MLB Draft, the Baltimore Orioles selected Adley Rutschman. Rutschman is a catcher from the Oregon State Beavers and will look to be a centerpiece for the Orioles future. He has been projected to go number 1 overall for quite some time by many scouts. Another potential number 1 pick was Andrew Vaughn (who went number 3 to the White Sox) and also Bobby Witt Jr. (drafted number 2 by Kansas City).
Rutschman At Oregon State
Rutschman started every single game for the Beavers in 2019. He hit .411 with 17 homers and a .575 on-base percentage. He also led the Beavers to a national title last year and was also named the MVP of the College World Series. In addition, Rutschman is also a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award (given annually to the nation’s top amateur player). He is also the first catcher to go number 1 overall since Joe Mauer with the Twins back in 2001.
What Is Next For Baltimore?
After finishing with the worst record in baseball last year at 47-115, the Orioles had the number 1 pick for the first time since 1989. Rutschman is considered a plus-defender with a great arm behind the plate. He is a perfect fit for the Orioles as they continue to rebuild their roster.
