Mets Take Brett Baty At Number 12 Overall

With the 12th selection in the MLB Draft, the New York Mets selected Brett Baty. Baty is a third baseman from Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas. Baty is the first third baseman the Mets have drafted in the first round since David Wright. The 6-foot-3 19-year-old is thought to be a great overall hitter with “power potential.” Other evaluators have also said that Baty has some of the best raw power of all of the high schoolers in this year’s draft. He is also currently hitting over .600 with 19 homers and 50 RBIs during his senior year.

What Baty Brings To New York

Baty brings one of the best pure hitters in the draft to the Mets. Though he hasn’t played above the high school level, Baty has shown evaluators that he can end up being a great contact and power hitter for the Mets in the future. Evaluators have also said that his success in the Majors could be dependent if he changes positions or not (i.e. if he stays at third or moves to first base). However, Baty has become more athletic and has shown he has the ability to stay at third. He has had many comparisons to Joey Votto and Freddie Freeman. Overall, Brett Baty was a great addition to the Mets organization, and he is expected to move quickly through the organization as well.

Welcome to New York Bretty Baty!
