Giants Draft OF Hunter Bishop With 10th Pick

The path out of a bottom five farm system is underway. Farhan’s first pick as Head of Baseball Ops of the Giants is in.

The Giants drafted Outfielder Hunter Bishop with the tenth overall pick in the draft. The left-handed hitter who went to Serra High School really broke out and impressed his junior season at Arizona State this season.

The pick is considered to be a good one by the Giants. With praise for the outfielder coming from many experts. Scouts have highlighted the Palo Alto natives ability to hit towering majestic home runs. Giving the Giants a left-handed hitting power bat in the outfield that they have been looking for since Barry Bonds.

Bishop also has pretty good speed, which is especially useful in the massive outfield at Oracle Park. Many expect though that he will be moved into a corner outfield spot. Even with the move, his good defensive ability should transfer over no problem to any of the outfield positions. Especially since it would appear the future of the Giants outfield is going to be very strong defensively.

Overall, Hunter Bishop has a tremendous amount of upside. Before playing a single professional out, he is already estimated to be the Giants number four prospect. Only behind last years pick Joey Bart, Heliot Ramos, and Marco Luciano. Bishop is getting a lot of comparisons to Cody Bellinger, which is the type of player the Giants desperately need and haven’t had in a long time.

Time will tell if Hunter Bishop will be a key part of the San Francisco Giants young core that is on it’s way to the big leagues. But the last time the Giants had a left-handed hitting, power bat, that went to Serra High School in the bay area, and Arizona State, he broke the home run record. No one is expecting the next Barry Bonds or anything, but so far optimism is high in the Bay Area.
