Lagares, Davis Give Mets Series Win Over Nationals

After the Mets were held scoreless through most of the night, the bats came alive in the eighth to give them a 6-1 win over the Nationals. Jacob deGrom got the start for the Mets and went six innings and allowed one run on two hits with eight strikeouts. On the other side, the Nationals sent Max Scherzer to the mound. Scherzer went six innings as well allowing no runs on four hits with nine strikeouts.

Game Recap

Tonight’s game lacked a lot of offense until the eighth inning. Adam Eaton got the scoring started in the first inning with a solo homer (his fourth on the year). In the eighth, Adeiny Hechavarria got the Mets going with a one-out double. Shortly after, Juan Lagares gapped a three-run double off Sean Doolittle to give the Mets a 3-1 lead. After that, he intentionally walked Wilson Ramos, and Rajai Davis came to the plate for his first at-bat as a Met.

“And he lines one deep left field, headed toward the wall, that ball is OUTTA HERE!”

Davis smacked a three-run homer to left to give the Mets the 6-1 lead in the eighth. The struggling Nationals bullpen faltered again and cost them another game. Tyler Bashlor came in to pitch a scoreless ninth and give the Mets the series win over the Nationals.

Tomorrow’s Game

Tomorrow afternoon, the Mets will go for the four-game sweep of the Nationals. The Mets will send Steven Matz (3-3 with a 3.96 ERA) to take on Stephen Strasburg (4-3 with a 3.32 ERA). How quickly the tides turn in baseball as the Mets have rebounded from their five-game losing streak to potentially win four straight (and sweep a division rival).
