Pirates Get Shutout And Look To Bounce Back

On Tuesday night, the Pirates returned to PNC Park to begin a homestand with the Colorado Rockies. The first game of the series didn’t pan out in the Pirates favor as they lost in shutout fashion 5-0.

How Tuesday’s Game Went Down

To keep it short and sweet, Rockies Pitcher German Marquez came with a vengeance against the Pirates. Marquez pitched eight solid innings only allowing three hits no runs and one walk. Marquez also punched out seven Pirates hitters. Rockies right fielder Charlie Blackmon had three hits and drove in two RBIs. Likewise, pitcher German Marquez also had one hit and one RBI.

The Rockies scored single runs in the second and third innings. The offense followed that up by two runs in the fourth inning and a late insurance run in the eighth.

The Pittsburgh Pirates

All the hype about Chris Archer I’m solely not buying. The Pirates will get a nice start out of him every now and then but he’s not consistent. Archer would finish with pitching five innings, allowing six hits, four runs (three earned), two walks, three strikeouts, and one home-run. Bryan Reynolds would hit the only double for the Pirates but nothing was simply cooking. The Pirates went 0-for-5 with RISP (runners in scoring position) and they would leave six runners on base.

Pitching

Rockies pitcher German Marquez moved to 5-2 with a 3.38 ERA. Meanwhile, Chris Archer moves to 1-4 with a 5.55 ERA.

Game Two Pitching Match-Up

The Pirates will send RHP Montana DuRapau (0-0, 1.35 ERA, 9 strikeouts) to the mound and the Rockies will oppose with RHP Jon Gray (3-4, 4.73 ERA, 59 strikeouts). No Rockies hitters have previous at-bats against DuRapau. Meanwhile, Melky Cabrera has a .333 average, Francisco Cervelli has a .500 average and Gregory Polanco has a .429 average.

Conclusion

Since the Pirates starter tonight has no experience against the Rockies, that should be an uplift per say. Likewise, since some Pirates have success against the Rockies starter that should also provide some uplift. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M.
