Penn State Stands off Rutgers

Of what we could see, it didn’t seem like a big victory, but  Penn State stands off Rutgers. The Nittany Lions prevailed 20-7.

The Recap

This battle between the Nittany Lions and Scarlet Knights didn’t see much scoring. In fact, when it came to half time, the Nittany Lions were only up 10-0. To be honest, they should of been leading by more at the half. Penn State managed a field goal in the first quarter.

Actually, to break it down even further, there were only five scoring plays this entire game.

Penn State

For the Nittany Lions, Penn States’ Jake Pinegar made two field goals on the day. Trace McSorley went 17-37, for 183 yards along with two touchdowns and one interception. For what was missed through the air,  running back Miles Sanders tried to make up for it on the ground. During the game, Sanders rushed 27 times for 94 yards. Trace McSorley added seven additional rushes for 39 yards.

On the receiving side, Pat Freiermuth had three receptions for 47 yards and the only two touchdowns in the game for Penn State. K.J Hamler had five receptions for 71 yards.

Rutgers

In this game, whether it was coaching or just the overall play, Rutgers couldn’t find anything to get going until late; and by that I mean the fourth quarter of this game. As for offense, red-shirt senior Giovanni Rescigno went  2-8 for 28 yards and was sacked just once. Freshman quarterback Artur Sitkowski tried to provide some relief but didn’t prevail and Penn State’s defense as Sitkowski went 3-7 for 18 yards along with two interceptions and was sacked three times.

Rushing wise, Raheem Blackshear as a sophomore led the way with 22 rushes for 106 yards. Blackshear also scored the only touchdown for the Scarlet Knights. Isaih Pacheco had 18 rushes for 59 yards, and for recieving wise, Bo Melton led the way with three catches for 29 yards.

Conclusion

Penn State stands off Rutgers. This game for Penn State was their final road game this season. Penn State returns home this coming Saturday for senior day when they take on Maryland Terrapins for a 3:30 kickoff. Game will be televised on ABC. Penn State is set to honor 20 some seniors and among those is Trace McSorley.
