ALCS Game 1 Recap
Game 1 of the ALCS has come to a close and the Houston Astros took the game 7-2 and will have the advantage for game 2 and maybe even going back to Houston. So let’s see how they got this win and the 1-0 lead in this series.
Sale Struggles Early
So Chris Sale got the nod for the Game 1 start, but he did not start very well. In the top of the 2nd, Marwin Gonzalez gets on with a base hit and a Correa walk and a Maldonado hit by pitch brought George Springer up with the bases loaded. On the 8th pitch of the at-bat, Springer hits a rocket to left field and 2 runs scored and the Astros have the lead early in this game 2-0.
Red Sox Even it Up
So Verlander was pitching very well until the 5th inning. He loaded the bases with 2 walks and a single to Pearce, and then he loses control again and walks Moreland to make it a 2-1 game. But if you thought it wasn’t done, Verlander bounces a pitch that Maldonado can’t handle, Bradley scores and the game was even at 2-2 on just bad pitching.
Astros Take Over
In the 6th, the Astros got men on first and second and Carlos Correa up. Correa lifted a bloop single to center and Bregman came around to score, and the Astros never looked back. In the top of the 9th, the Astros put the lead out of reach. Reddick led off the inning with a solo blast to make the lead 4-2. And then, with 2 men on, here comes the big blow. Yuli Gurriel was the batter and he lifted a looping fly ball down the right-field line. It looked like a harmless shot, but Mookie Betts was shifting to the left field side and he couldn’t get there, but with a little wind, the ball sneaked inside the Pesky Pole for a three-run shot an with the 7-2 lead now, that was all she wrote, Astros leave game 1 up one game to 0.
