Dodgers Dominate Giants 15-0 Win To Complete Sweep; Force Game 163
Yesterday, the Los Angeles Dodgers dominated the San Fransisco Giants in their 15-0 win which completed the series sweep. Their win forces a game 163 against the Colorado Rockies to see who will win the division and who will be the second Wild Card. Before we get to the preview of today’s game, let’s recap yesterday’s slaughtering.
Offense On Point
In a game with 15 runs scored there were many who contributed to the Dodgers win, as their offense was on point. First, Brian Dozier, Max Muncy, and Austin Barnes all had home runs; something we haven’t seen in a while from both Dozier and Barnes. Also, Matt Kemp went 3-3 with two doubles and three runs batted in. Further, Manny Machado continued to stay hot going 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Lastly, Kike Hernandez has to be mentioned. Hernandez went 3-5 yesterday with a triple, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Add that to the previous two games against the Giants and Kike went a combined 9 for 13 (a .692 average!) with six runs scored and three RBIs. Hernandez has been on fire lately! In fact, since the beginning of August Kike is third in the National League in batting average and top 10 in both on base percentage and slugging. The super utility man has always been a stud on the field, but he has finally seemed to get locked in offensively and reach the potential that so many have seen in him.
Rich Hill Delivers
Saturday night, Rich Hill went to bed early not knowing that he would be getting the start Sunday. When he woke up yesterday morning and saw he got the nod, he grabbed his wife and yelled at her with excitement that he would be getting the start! Well, I’m glad he got a good night’s sleep because his performance was amazing and arguably his best of the year. Hill pitched seven scoreless innings, only giving up two hits, with seven strikeouts. J.T. Chargois and Julio Urias came in to relieve Hill and closed out the game scoreless as well.
Game 163
In a few hours, the Dodgers will play their 163rd regular game of the season against the Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers are 12-7 on the year against the Rockies, most recently sweeping them in a three-game series a couple of weeks ago.
The Rockies will have German Marquez taking the mound. Marquez has a 3.76 ERA. In Marquez’s most recent start, he set a modern-day record striking out the first eight batters and was just named the Nation League’s Pitcher of the Month.
The Dodgers will call upon their young ace Walker Buehler for game 163. Buehler has a 2.76 ERA, and the last time he faced the Rockies he held them scoreless.
Both the Dodgers and Rockies have been battling for first place all season. Although both have made it into the playoffs, today is the day we will find out who ends up on top of the National League West.
