David Wright Activated from DL

Earlier today, the Mets officially activated “Captain” David Wright from the disabled list. In a corresponding move, Eric Hanhold was placed on the 60-Day DL with a strained left oblique. Wright is back in action for the first time in 2 1/2 years. He could potentially be used off the bench until the big day Saturday, September 29th. David Wright announced his will suit up and start at third base for what will most likely be the final game of his MLB career. Wright will send Citi Field into an uproar when he first runs out of the dugout. Mickey Callaway also announced today that Jose Reyes will start at shortstop for that game. The dynamic duo is back together for the first time in a long while. It will definitely be an emotional game for Mets fans.

David Wright’s Final Game Set For Saturday

Though David Wright has never explicitly said the word “retire”, all signs indicate that this will be it for Captain America. Mets Assistant GM John Ricco said it is unlikely that Wright will appear before Saturday’s game against the Marlins. Wright also stated today, “All in all, it’s nice to accomplish what I guess at this point more of a longer-term goal of being activated, but at the same time, wanting to put on as good a show as I possibly can — and at the same time soak it in.” Wright has been preparing a long time for this game, and Saturday will be one of, if not the biggest, game of his career. Steven Matz is scheduled to start for the Mets, while the Marlins send Trevor Richards to the mound.

Get Out the Tissue Boxes

Saturday is going to be an emotional game not only for David Wright himself but for Mets fans as well. Wright has meant so much to the fanbase that him taking the field one last time will tear a hole in Mets fans’ hearts, including myself. I will be attending David Wright’s game on Saturday and, just like David Wright, will be soaking it in and embracing every moment of that game. You can count on tears from David Wright, myself, and the tens of thousands of Mets fans also in attendance.
