Christian Yelich Hits For Cycle As Brewers Top Reds
Brewers shutout Reds to close the gap on Cubs
The Brewers continued to keep pace with the Cubs with and 8-0 victory over the Reds. The victory improved the Brewers record to 86-65 on the season. They currently hold the top Wild Card spot in the National League. The game featured a dominant outing from Brewers starter Wade Miley, and NL MVP candidate Christian Yelich hitting for his second cycle of the season. The Brew Crew also saw key offensive production from Lorenzo Cain, Domingo Santana, Orlando Arcia, and Jonathan Schoop. Yelich led the way with four RBIs while everyone else settled with one apiece. On the mound, Wade Miley went five innings, allowing five hits, no runs, and struck out two. Tomorrow, the Brewers take on the Reds again at 7:40 PM EST.
Yelich Hits For His Second Cycle Of The Season
The highlight of the evening was Brewers outfielder, Christian Yelich, hitting for his second cycle of the season! Yelich tripled in the bottom of the sixth to accomplish the feat. Now, Yelich is one of three players to have hit for the cycle multiple times in a single season since 1908. Others on the list include Aaron Hill in 2012 and Babe Herman in 1931. Yelich is the first of the three to have both cycles against the same team. He cranked his 31st homer of the year as well. Yelich finished the night 4-4 with four RBIs and a run scored.
Yelich has now bolstered his chances in the NL MVP race. His 31st homer was his 20th since the All-Star break. Only Khris Davis of the A’s has more home runs in all of baseball in that span (22). Yelich also leads the Majors in hits, batting average, slugging percentage, and OPS since the break. It has been no secret that Yelich has hit his way, just like Matt Carpenter, into the MVP race in the National League. Yelich has certainly increased his chances, and perhaps have solidified the honor.
