Hook’em Horns! Texas Defeats USC 37-14
Texas defeats USC, for the first time since the 2005 BCS Championship game, 37-14 and collect their 900th win all-time as a program. USC jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the first quarter. Early in the second quarter, Texas QB Sam Ehlinger would connect with Lil’Jordan Humphrey for a 47 yard touched down. The first half would end with the Longhorns getting two field goals to head into half time with a 16-14 lead.
In the third quarter, Texas hit USC in the mouth. Longhorn QB Sam Ehlinger would be responsible for two total touchdowns, including a beautiful 27 yard pass and catch to Joshua Moore, and Anthony Wheeler would return a blocked field goal 46 yards for a score. Neither team would score in the fourth quarter and Texas would take the revenge victory against USC 37-14.
Overall Thoughts
I originally predicted Texas to win 31-21. The stats weren’t pretty for Sam Ehlinger, going 15 for 33 and passing for 223 yards with three total touchdowns (2 passing, 1 rushing); however, he made some plays that were vital to bringing home the W for Longhorn nation. Texas absolutely smothered the USC ground game holding the Trojans to negative six yards rushing. USC QB JT Daniels made some good throws but struggled some after looking sharp in the first quarter. Daniels had an okay night passing for 322 yards with an interception. Texas gets a much-needed win heading into conference play against TCU next week. USC heads back to Los Angeles hoping to use this game to learn from and regroup before playing Washington State.
What do you think? What does this game mean for both teams? Do you see Texas making some noise in the Big 12? Will USC recover or continue to struggle?
