Penn State Wins Its First Game Of The Season
Game one of Penn State football season is in the books. By a long shot, it wasn’t pretty in many fans eyes. Moments of cheers and moments of heartache. In the end, Penn State wins its first game of the season
First quarter
The first quarter, both teams scored a touch down each. However, the sole difference was Appalachian State was on special teams via a kick return for 100 yards by Darrynton Evans, while Penn States Trace McSorley took the charge himself and rushed for 12 yard run. the score was 10-7 in favor of the Mountaineers. Additionally, Chandler Staton launched a 38 yard field goal
Second quarter
the second quarter seen the least of the production of all four quarters. scoring came late in the second quarter and by late, I mean with 12 seconds left, Jake Pinegar kicked a 32 yard field goal. the game went into half time tied.
Third quarter
The third quarter was all Penn State. James Franklin Penn State’s football coach, seemed to light a fire in his team by saying something along the lines of first half is behind us, lets go out and treat the second half like it’s the first half with a clean slate.
First, Trace McSorley ran for a ten yard touchdown captivated by Freshman running back Ricky Slade 27 yard run.
this would help Penn State win its first game of the season.
Fourth quarter
This quarter witnessed the most production. Although Penn State was outscored 28-14 in this quarter, it showed [Penn States] resilience. the Mountaineers scored first with Malik Williams 17 yard TD pass from Zac Smith. Penn State countered that with running back Miles Sanders two yard rush for a touchdown.
Malik Williams would then receive another 24 yard touchdown pass from Zac Smith. Additionally, Zac Smith ran for a one yard touchdown. Furthermore, Jalin Moore rushed for a 16 yard touchdown.
The biggest play of the game came from KJ Hamler when he received a 15 yard touchdown pass from trace McSorley. This play helped propel Penn State to win its first game of the season.
Overtime
Penn State showed their young experienced talent. Miles Sanders showed why he’s the best fit besides McSorley for big plays. Miles Sanders rushed for a four yard touchdown that proved to be the sealer. However, Penn State’s Amani Oruwariye intercepted Zac SMith in overtime to seal the victory.
Penn State wins its first game of the season and the final score was 45-38.
