Shohei Ohtani Makes His Return To The Mound
Tonight, Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani makes his return to the mound. Ohtani, 24, has not pitched since June 6th due to a sprained ligament in his right elbow. Ohtani has 4-1 with a 3.10 ERA and 61 strikeouts on the mound this year. He has been only subject to the DH spot in the Angels lineup since he was activated off the DL from the elbow injury. Offensively, Ohtani is hitting .276 with 15 homers and 43 RBI’s. It has been nearly three months since Ohtani last pitched, but himself and the Angels still expect him to perform the way he was prior to the injury. He will take on the defending World Champion Houston Astros and Gerrit Cole in Houston tonight at 8:05 PM EST.
The Angels 2018 Overall
The Angels 2018 season has been less than ideal. The Halos are currently 66-70 on the season and are in fourth place in the AL West. Early in the season, the Angels were right in the race for a playoff spot. They quickly fell off the pace when superstar Mike Trout went on the DL earlier this season. The Angels had high expectations coming into the season, but with injuries plaguing the team for most of the year, the 2018 season has been upsetting for fans. There have been a few bright spots this season for the Halos. Mike Trout continues to prove why he is the best player on the planet, Shohei Ohtani has emerged as a potential Rookie of the Year candidate, and the emergence of Andrew Heaney has shown Angels fans that they have a lot of optimism going into the future.
To sum up, what has been a disappointing season for the Angels, fans look for their squad to finish on a high note. Ohtani’s return to the mound tonight is one of those little things that Angels fans can look forward to during the 2019 season and beyond.
