College Football Teams That Could Go Undefeated In 2018
Each season every college football fan wants to see their team go undefeated. The current record for wins in a college football season is 14 held by four teams (Ohio State, Boise State, Auburn, and Florida State). However, records are meant to be broken. The new mountain to climb is 15 wins in a season with the addition of the playoff. Clemson and Alabama came close the past few seasons, but each one ended up losing one game either during the season or in the championship game. Here are some college football teams that could go undefeated in 2018.
Clemson Tigers
The Clemson Tigers are my favorite to go 15-0 in 2018. Clemson’s schedule sets up nicely for an undefeated season. Although they go on the road in week 2 to Texas A&M and travel to Florida State in late October, I got a feeling Clemson may be primed for a run in 2018. Don’t get me wrong, there are trap games on the schedule and injuries can wreck any team. Still, Clemson has the best chance in my opinion. The main question is going to be quarterback and if they can improve from last years numbers.
Alabama Crimson Tide
Head Coach Nick Saban may be getting older, but is there really a sign of slowing down? Short answer: nope. I expect the Crimson Tide to do what Alabama has done the past decade and smother teams into submission. Alabama is expected to be next level on offense, but take a step back on defense. How odd is it that the offense may have to be the strength of the team in 2018? Regardless, never doubt Nick Saban having his players ready to play and the talent the Crimson Tide always seems to have.
Washington Huskies
Coach Peterson has built a consistent winner in the Washington Huskies. The past two seasons have shown the Huskies are knocking on the door of the upper echelon of college football. If Washington can get past Auburn in week 1, the Huskies should be able to run the table until the end of the year rivalry slate. Talent is not lacking on either side of the ball. Stanford is going to be a challenge and weird things can happen in Pullman, but if Washington is going to make some noise, the time is now.
Closing Thoughts
College football is getting to the point where your team better bring it every Saturday or you are going to get beat. I didn’t bother with non-P5 conferences because their shot of making it to the playoffs currently is slim minus some big breaks or upsets. Alabama is deep enough to always make a run it seems and can you ever doubt Coach Saban? Clemson is loaded and if their QB play is up to par, there may not be a team that can keep up. Washington has the combination of experience and talent that should have seen them in the playoffs last year. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long to find out what teams are for real and which teams are pretenders.
