Johnny Cueto to Undergo Tommy John Surgury
Johnny Cueto is reportedly scheduled to have Tommy John surgery. This will put Cueto out for the rest of the 2018 MLB season. This is a devastating blow to the Giants as they are five games behind of the Diamondbacks for the division lead. They need their star pitchers to come together on this stretch if they want to make the postseason, and now they won’t have one of them. This is also unfortunate that it happened one day after the trade deadline. If the Giants knew this ahead of time, they could’ve gotten a pitcher to replace Johnny Cueto. At a point where the Giants needed everybody, they lost somebody for the rest of the year.
The Giants Rotation Now
This leads now to the other pitchers in the Giants rotation to step it up. Madison Bumgarner needs to keep doing what he always does; but pitchers such a Ty Blach, Chris Stratton, Derek Holland, and Jeff Samardzija to pick up the ball if this team wants to see October baseball again. It is an even year so they should at least make a run, but if that doesn’t happen, this could be the beginning of the end for the Giants.
The Beginning of the End?
It’s hard to believe, but the Giants could not play in October in a while. Let’s think about it. Buster Posey is 31, Johnny Cueto is 32, Brandon Crawford is 31. It is obvious that this team is aging, but they still can’t put in one last hurrah! This team has the talent, they just have to get through the Dodgers, Rockies, and Diamondbacks. Two if not all three of these teams will make the playoffs, so it will be tough. With Johnny Cueto out, I don’t see it happening this year. But hey, it is an even year.
