No Balloons at Clemson?

For all the Clemson Tigers fans, they know what the entrance consists of. It has always been very unique and exciting for every home game. The players run down the hill to the field, after touching Howard’s Rock for good luck. The entrance includes a huge amount of orange balloons released into the air, to add an extreme visual moment. However, we could see no balloons at Clemson.

No Balloons at Clemson?

There is a possibility that the balloons could be banned starting this season. A tradition could come to an end, after many years.

Tigernet.com reported:

  • Releasing of the balloons will no longer be part of the pregame entrance at Death Valley in Clemson, SC.

A source confirmed to Tigernet last Friday Night that the decision was made recently (not made by the board of trustees) Tigernet told it was a “campus decision” and it has been a long time coming.

How did the Balloons Come About?

The tradition of releasing the balloons started as a stunt to set a world record. The record would be for the largest balloon release. The stunt turned into a home game tradition for 30 years.

Why are we getting rid of the balloons, you ask?

There are environmental concerns surrounding the release of the balloons. It’s leading to a similar case to what happened in Nebraska in the past. A Nebraska resident sued the University of Nebraska in 2016 over the releasing of balloons at football games. They claimed that it’s a harmful threat for children and animals, due to them coming down to surface at some point.

Where does this put Clemson in the playoff picture? Will Clemson keep the balloons? Will there be a new entrance for the home games? Feel free to comment below and let us know what your thoughts are.
