Chicago Cubs acquire Cole Hamels From The Texas Rangers

The Starting Rotation this year for the Cubs are underperforming to a lot of peoples standards. The major struggles of Tyler Chatwood to the injury-riddled Yu Darvish. The Cubs needed someone to bring it all together and hold the rotation afloat. And today they did just that; Cubs acquire Cole Hamels from the Texas Rangers. This is a move that can either make or break the Cubs rotation. A lot of us Cubs fans think he could have a Justin Verlander ish resurgence and drive us through the postseason. Which is something that isn’t too far out there.

Cole Hamels Effect On The Cubs

The past few years for Cole haven’t been the best, but a change of scenery could do him some good. Hamels to the Cubs will also most likely take Chatwood out of the rotation and into the pen. The most important thing being Hamels will eat up a lot of innings, saving the bullpen a lot of work and putting them in better shape overall. Cole Hamels had all his best years in the N.L which as everyone knows is a more pitcher-friendly conference. So, maybe we will see a resurgence of Cole Hamels and a Cubs push to the World Series yet again.

Waisted Money On Tyler Chatwood?

Even though Tyler Chatwood didn’t work out as a starter, he will still hold some value on the Cubs roster. Transitioning from the rotation to the bullpen isn’t going to be easy though. Going from starting a game to coming in halfway through will take a significant adjustment. Tyler Chatwood being available to go 1-2 innings in relief is something a lot of us will be able to handle. Just as long as it isn’t a high leverage situation.
