Braves Announcers “Unprofessional” Dig At Dodgers BP Backfires

The Braves were losing 1-0 in the top of the fifth inning. Apparently their announcers, Joe Simpson and Chip Caray, ran out of things to talk about, so they decided to bag on the Dodgers. The digs weren’t about their season or their performance. They decided to make digs about the Dodgers being “unprofessional” for their attire during batting practice. Dave Roberts had this to say when asked about the criticism:

“I didn’t hear the audio. I want to hear it. But I take it personal when people question our professionalism because I’ll put our professionalism, the way we play the game, the way we prepare every day, up against anybody. I have to hear the audio but that kind of sets me off a little bit.”

Well, I did hear the audio and it definitely set me off. I can only imagine how Dave Roberts will react upon listening. To paraphrase, Simpson and Caray went on and on about how “unprofessional” the Dodgers looked during batting practice.

Then they cut to a video of the Boys in Blue before the game. First, there was a clip showing Max Muncy in a Dodger t-shirt and baseball pants. The next clip was of Justin Turner in a Dodger Blue colored t-shirt and baseball pants. Finally, was a clip of Chase Utley, who had his baseball pants rolled up, with no socks and was wearing a 108-stitches backward “K”  t-shirt. The t-shirt is part of their “Lets Strike Out Cancer” series, which proceeds go directly towards those affected with Cancer. Utley’s “son” Kiké Hernandez is the Dodger’s player rep for the series this year. Such a terrible cause to support!

Simpson and Caray

Simpson and Caray went on to say how they were thinking of Dodger fans who came out to see their team and “they had no idea who any of them were”  because no player had on a uniform or batting practice jersey. They further went on to say that,

“If I were a Dodger fan I would be “embarrassed”.

Here’s a newsflash for Simpson and Caray, they’re the ones who should be embarrassed by the nonsense that spewed out of their mouths. If you’re a real fan of your team, you don’t need a jersey to tell you who the players are, because you already know who they are just by looking at them. I think the pot called the kettle black about being “unprofessional” because their whole display was ridiculous.

In addition, Simpson and Caray were definitely wrong about knowing and speaking for Dodger fans. A plethora of threads, comments, and conversations have already broken out on social media about their commentary. Fan favorites Kiké Hernandez and Justin Turner have also already taken to Twitter to reference the ideocracy spoken about them tonight. If Kiké and Turner had their way, they might be taking batting practice in speedos and overalls tomorrow.

Simpson and Caray would do better analyzing how the Braves can avoid a sweep by the Dodgers rather than gossiping like jealous teenage girls.

The Dodgers are in fact going for the sweep against the Braves tomorrow.  Batting Practice should be interesting!
