What Are The Odds Of Zach Britton Coming To Chicago?

The most consistent part of this Cubs team all season has been the bullpen. And it hasn’t been just one guy dominating every time he goes out. It’s been nearly everyone playing exceptionally well. And now we learn that Brandon Morrow is heading to the DL for the second time this season. So, I guess it raises that question, what are the odds of Zach Britton coming to Chicago? It’s a high possibility, but Theo and Jed are going to need to compete against multiple teams. Such as; Dodgers, Brewers, Athletics, and Diamondbacks.

Zach Britton’s Fit In Chicago

Zach Britton to the Cubs makes a lot of sense for multiple reasons. The first naturally being someone who can split closing time with Morrow who has been injury prone this season. Taking the full load off of Morrow could do a lot of good for him. And I think him coming off the DL and being thrown in immediately didn’t help things at all either. Having Britton in the pen for when Morrow returns could mean a lot for the healing on his arm.

The other reason being, just to have a stronger bullpen. You could never have too many shut down pitchers in your pen. And with how good the Cubs pen has been so far, with the addition of Britton it could make them near impossible to beat.

What Would The Cubs Have To Give Up?

A pitcher like Britton isn’t going to be cheap, and I’m sure Theo and Jed are well aware of that. The one thing that may prevent Britton from coming to Chicago is the Cubs farm system. Ranking overall 28th in the league, the system isn’t what it used to be especially after last season. So, the Cubs have a far shot of grabbing Britton, but if he is dealt to Chicago it’s going to take a lot to get him here, but the return will be well worth it in my eyes.
