Opinion: What Every Team Should Add at the MLB Trade Deadline

There are three moments during the regular season that are my favorite. Opening Day, All-Star Week, and the wild day that is the MLB trade deadline. Contending teams are adding that piece that could put them over the hump, and those on-contending teams might tear it all down. We have already seen some trades, such as Manny Machado to the Dodgers, and Brad Hand to the Indians.  Today I will go over what each and every MLB team should do at the 2018 MLB trade deadline.

Atlanta Braves – Starting Pitching

The Braves pitching is a weak spot in their team.  While Mike Foltynewicz is an all-star starter, they lack a solid second starter witch is key in the playoffs.  A trade that has been talked about is Jacob deGrom to the Braves for some prospects.  This would be a good trade for both sides.

Philadelphia Phillies – Bullpen

Another key thing in the playoffs is the bullpen.  They don’t need to get a major piece, but a solid set up man could help them a lot.

Washington Nationals – Big Bat

This team needs something to get them going.  They were world series contenders to start the year, and now they are 49-50.  They need a big bat to ignite this lineup.

New York Mets – Prospects

This team is bad and won’t be good with the players they have.  They need youth to bring up this team for the future. I say the deal a big name to a contending team for some prospects and develop for the future.

Miami Marlins – Prospects

This team is in the same boat as the Mets.  Develop for the future and tear the house down.

Chicago Cubs – Starting Pitching

The Cubs are set pretty much everywhere except starters.  Yu Darvish and Jose Quintana have underplayed and they need another solid pitcher to help them in October.

Milwaukee Brewers – Starting Pitching

This team is in the same boat as the Cubs.  Set everywhere, but could use some starting pitching to help them in October.

St. Louis Cardinals – Bullpen

This team is looking for a last-ditch push to make it to October. They have really struggled in the late innings.  A solid closer at the deadline could fix all of that.

Pittsburg Pirates – Starting Pitching

This team, believe it or not, has been on a 10 game win streak and is only 4 games out of the playoffs.  A final effort for October could be made with another quality starter.

Cincinnati Reds – Starting Pitching

This team has a very underrated lineup, but the pitching is awful.  A quality starter could help this team contend in the near future.

Los Angeles Dodgers – Bullpen

The lineup is great, the pitching is great, and even the bullpen is good.  That has the most room to improve, so they can pad their stats there.

Arizona Diamondbacks – Starting Pitching

They have a potent lineup, but the starters could do a better job to limit the runs.  They can get this at this year’s MLB trade deadline.

Colorado Rockies – Starting Pitching

Take what I just said for the D-Backs and just put it here.

San Francisco Giants – Big Bat

The lineup in San Fran is good but misses that scary guy to face.  If they are willing to give up a bit, they can get a major piece to boost those bats.

San Diego Padres – Prospects

With this strong division, this team must plan for the future and tear it down.  Get some young pieces for the future.

Boston Red Sox – Bullpen

At the top of the MLB, the Sox don’t need to fix what isn’t broke.  They could use a setup man to pair with Kimbrel though.

New York Yankees – Starting Pitching

With the stacked A.L., this team needs a starter and fast.  Severino is carrying this rotation on his back.  In the playoffs, I’ll take most starters over Tanaka or any other starter the Yankees have.  Get another one to save your troubles.

Toronto Blue Jays – Prospects

With this division, the Jays won’t be going anywhere for a while, they could get some major quality youth for the pieces they have.

Tampa Bay Rays – Prospects

This team is in the same boat as the Jays.  They could get some serious prospects for the pieces they have.

Baltimore Orioles – Prospects

This team has nothing.  Let’s get some prospects and develop them into something.

Cleveland Indians – Bullpen

I thought that this team needed some bullpen help,  but they already got Brad Hand a few days ago so they are good for now.

Minnesota Twins – Starting Pitching

This team has the lineup to make some noise, but they need some pitching to help them out.  There are many starters they could trade for.

Chicago White Sox – Big Bat

This team has the potential and is waiting to unleash it.  Another big bat to pair with Abreu and this team could contend in a few years.

Detroit Tigers – Prospects

This team’s contending years are over. They need to do one thing.  Summon the youth!

Kansas City Royals – Prospects

This team’s contending years are over. They need to do one thing.  Summon the youth!

Houston Astros – Nothing

This team is set at every point on the field. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it!

Seattle Mariners – Starting Pitching

The man James Paxton needs some help.  He could use a 2nd starter to help him in October.  If the M’s can get it, they might just be major contenders.

Oakland A’s – Big Bat

This team has been a major surprise.  a team of role players that stepped it up and way surpassed expectations.  A big name player may put them over the hump in 2019.

Anaheim Angels – Starting Pitching

While Ohtoni is amazing, he could use a second man to help him out.  This team just might be on the uprise in 2019.

Texas Rangers – Prospects

This team has blown chance after chance in the playoffs and now here comes the rebuild.  Get the youth, it will guide you.
