Jon Lester One Hits Pittsburgh For Cubs Fourth Consecutive Win
The Cubs in their last fifteen games are 12-3 and outscoring opponents 72-39 and climbing all the way to a half-game deficit in the division. We are finally seeing this team play closer to their full potential. I wouldn’t say they are quite there yet; however, they are very close to playing to their full potential. And once The Cubs do hit their full potential, it’s going to be a rough time for all the other teams in the Central. Lester one hit Pittsburgh to secure his seventh win. And The Cubs defense yet again made very clutch plays to keep Pittsburgh off the board.
Jon Lester Is Pitching Really Well
Jon Lester one hit Pittsburgh today, and it’s becoming a more common thing for Jon this year. In his last three starts, Jon hasn’t given up a single run and no more than three hits in all three starts. Allowing just eight earned runs in his last eight starts with an ERA in the high 1s. Jon today walked only two batters, which is something The Cubs need to start doing more. Walking no more than three batters on any given night. After today’s start, Jon lowered his ERA down to 2.22. Which is marked at seventh best in the league, The Cubs ace is finally starting to throw like an ace. It’s just a matter of how long will he be able to keep it up?

Offense Does Their Job To Get The Win
Scoring just two runs in today’s game, it was all The Cubs needed. Shutting out The Pirates two was all they needed. The crazy thing is both runs came in the first inning, and both teams failed to score for the rest of the day. Cubs scored their first run on a Ben Zobrist groundout that scored Kris Bryant. The second run came off an Anthony Rizzo sac fly to score Jason Heyward.
Player Of The Game
Seeing that the offense did hit a lot in today’s game, player of the game for me has to go to Jon Lester. Showing a real improvement in his last couple starts. He dominated, one hit Pittsburgh and get’s his seventh win. Jon’s success on the mound is going to have a lot to do with how The Cubs starting rotation does for the rest of the season. And if he keeps pitching the way he is for the rest of the season. It’s going to be interesting to see how the rest of the rotation responds to his dominance.
