Dodgers Take Game One Of World Series

The Dodgers took the first game of the World Series by a final score of 8-3. The Dodgers offense got to work early and never looked back. In addition, they got a terrific performance from Clayton Kershaw. For the Rays, Glasnow started strong but did not finish well as the Dodgers got to him towards the end of his outing.

Game Recap

On the mound, Clayton Kershaw was dominant yet again. Kershaw went six innings allowing one run on two hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. He earned his first win in a World Series since the 2017 Fall Classic. In addition, Kershaw now sits second all-time on the postseason strikeout list and only trails Astros ace, Justin Verlander. For Tampa Bay, Tyler Glasnow went 4 and 1/3 innings allowing six runs on three hits with six walks and eight strikeouts. After a solid start, Glasnow gradually lost command as his pitch count went up. He ended up with 110 pitches and saw a dip in his velocity and the Dodgers took advantage.

Offensively, the Dodgers were clicking on all cylinders. Cody Bellinger got the scoring started with a two-run shot in the fourth. In the fifth, the Dodgers blew it open. After terrific baserunning from Mookie Betts, the Dodgers received RBI hits from Will Smith, Chris Taylor, and Kike Hernandez. In the sixth, Mookie Betts struck yet again and hit a solo homer and Max Muncy would follow suit with an RBI double later in the inning.

The Rays offense struggled against the Dodgers in game one. Kevin Kiermaier hit a solo homer in the fifth and added an RBI single in the seventh. Mike Brosseau also had an RBI single in the seventh. In order to even the series, the Rays need to be more consistent at the plate and string together hits if they are going to get to the Dodgers’ pitching.

What To Look For In Game Two

For Game Two, the Dodgers need to keep getting after the Rays. They were thriving on all sides of the diamond in game one and will look to keep up the momentum in game two. For the Rays, the offense needs to rely less on homers. They are one big hit away from their offense going on a tear. Game Two will be a huge game for Tampa Bay with hopes to get some momentum back on their side.
