Kyle Busch Is Looking For A 3rd Sonoma Victory
Kyle Busch is currently 1 of just 2 active drivers with at least 2 wins at Sonoma. As we head to a track that means so much to him, he’ll surely be hoping to make it 3. His most recent win at the California track was back in 2015, as he was fighting for a chance at the playoffs following his early-season injury. Kyle was able to score a remarkable victory that would give him a chance at his eventual championship.
Another element that may play into Busch’s favor this weekend is the track change in Sonoma. As someone whose proven his road course skills, the addition of the carousel may be easier for Kyle to pick up on. When NASCAR.com talked to Kyle about racing at road courses he said it was “like a vacation.”
“It’s different, for sure,’’ Busch said. “There are a lot of guys out there who have the road racing background, who know a heck of a lot more about road racing and technique than we do. The neat thing about road racing is just being able to have – it’s like – a vacation weekend. You just go out there and have fun and do the best you can and you’ll either do really well or you’ll do really badly, and you just go on to the next one.”
Kyle Busch’s Wine Country Stats And Preparation
Kyle Busch has 14 Cup Series starts in the Sonoma Valley. In those starts, he has 2 wins, 4 top 5s, and 6 top 10s. He currently has an average start of 14.4 and also an average finish of 16.2. With so little road course racing on the NASCAR Cup schedule, Kyle shared how he prepares for a weekend like this.
“I think the biggest thing you do for Sonoma is watch some film,” Busch told NASCAR.com. “Look at things from the past few years that have worked and some things that haven’t, and look at what has made you better there. You always have to be mindful of what has made you good there and what you can improve on. I’m looking forward to heading out there and getting back in the M&M’S Hazelnut Spread Camry.”
Do you think Kyle can find victory lane in Sonoma again this weekend? Make sure to tune in tomorrow at 3 PM EST on FS1 to find out.
