Can Happy Harvick End His 2019 Winless Streak at Sonoma?

This weekend the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series heads out west to Sonoma. This will mark the first of 3 road course races on the 2019 schedule. While Sonoma is a familiar venue for the Cup Series, there is a small difference this time around. For the first time since 1997, drivers will be running the carousel at the iconic track. This however is just one of the several story lines entering this weekend’s race. Perhaps the biggest headline from a year-long perspective on the Cup Series involves the man known as Happy Harvick. More specifically, it involves Kevin Harvick’s inability to get to victory lane so far in the 2019 season.

Sonoma is a Playground for Kevin Harvick in Recent Years

When the green flag drops on Sunday, the question is whether or not Harvick can finally get over the hump and notch his first win of 2019 in Sonoma. If recent history at the track is anything to go by, then the answer is most certainly a yes. In the past 6 races at Sonoma, Harvick has finished in the top 10 5 times. This streak also includes 3 top 5s and a win in 2017. Happy Harvick has actually led 62 of his 95 career laps led at the track in just the past 3 races. So with that being the case, it seems likely that fans may see the #4 Stewart-Haas Mustang in Victory Lane.

Another layer to the story that Harvick has been unable to break through this year is just how good he has been despite not winning. Kevin has been right there on several occasions and has had seemingly anything and everything go wrong. Despite this fact, he still finds himself 4th in the points standings. This proves just how consistent he has been without any wins. So with a driver who is at the top of his game, it is a terrifying prospect for the roll he could go on if he finally breaks through.
