Mets Sign Carlos Gomez To A Minor League Deal
According to reports, the Mets have signed free-agent outfielder Carlos Gomez to a Minor League deal. Gomez previously played with the Mets back in 2007, but also played for the Twins, Brewers, Astros, Rangers, and the Rays. The two-time All-Star will look to bounce back after a disappointing 2018 season. With the Rays in 2018, Gomez batted just .208 with 9 homers, 32 RBIs, and scored just 42 runs in 118 games. In his career, Gomez is a .253 hitter with 142 homers, 536 RBIs, 665 runs scored, and 264 stolen bases. Should he find himself on the MLB roster, Gomez will bring speed to the Mets along with great defense and will always serve as a great depth piece. Overall, this is a great signing for the Mets.
History Of Carlos Gomez With The Mets
Carlos Gomez broke into the Majors with the Mets back in 2007. He played 58 games with the team before he went to the Twins the following season. Gomez also almost rejoined the Mets back in 2015 with a trade that would have sent Wilmer Flores and Zack Wheeler to the Brewers. However, as we all know, the trade fell through and gave us one of the most memorable (for better or for worse) night in Mets history.
With this signing, Mets fans have also raised a few eyebrows. Gomez is now back with the Mets, but does this mean another move is in the near future? Possibly with Juan Lagares? Lagares has been the subject of many rumors before, however, the addition of Gomez is most likely just a depth piece signing. As the Mets also await word on Yoenis Cespedes’s return, along with other injuries they have, signing Gomez gives the Mets a lot of options come late in the season when it matters most.
