Bryce Harper Signs With The Phillies For 13-Years and $330 Million

The Bryce Harper saga has officially come to an end. It is being reported that Harper signed a 13-year deal with the Phillies worth $330 million. The deal also includes a full no-trade clause and no opt-outs throughout the entire contract. Along with this, this will top recently-signed Manny Machado for the largest contract in the history of baseball and pro sports. Just a few days ago, it appeared that the Phillies were out on Harper due to his asking price. Other teams involved heavily on Harper were the Giants and the Dodgers, but the Phillies offered the deal that Harper wanted.

What Player Are The Phillies Getting?

The former Rookie of Year and NL MVP is giving a HUGE boost to the Phillies lineup. Harper will give the Phillies perhaps the best lineup in the NL East. Paired with Andrew McCutchen, Rhys Hoskins, J.T. Realmuto, and Jean Segura, the Phillies have a star-studded lineup from top to bottom. In his career, Harper is batting .279 with 184 homers and 521 RBIs and 610 runs scored. He is also a six-time All-Star and has a Silver Slugger Award from 2015.

In 2018, Harper had a strong season, but not the best of what we’ve seen from him. He slashed .249/.393/.496 with 34 homers, 100 RBIs and 103 runs scored. However, Harper, along with the other additions, have made the Phillies perhaps the best team/favorite in the entire National League. The NL East just became a lot more competitive with 4 out of the 5 teams fighting for a playoff spot. With the addition of Harper, the Phillies have started to distance themselves from everyone else.
