Brewers Blank the Rockies to Take Game 2
The Milwaukee Brewers took Game 2 of the NLDS with a 4-0 win over the Rockies. The win today puts them one away from advancing to their first NLCS since 2011. Jhoulys Chacin pitched five brilliant innings, allowing three hits, no runs, three walks, and three strikeouts. Rockies’ starter Tyler Anderson went six innings allowing four hits, one run, two walks, and striking out five. He worked on short rest for the first time in his career as he started Game 163 on Monday. The Brewers are heading to Colorado for the next potentially two games of the series before heading back for Game 5 (if necessary).
Game Recap
Both sides of offense were missing through three innings until the Brewers finally broke through in the fourth. Hernan Perez got the scoring started with a ground-rule double that scored Mike Moustakas. The Rockies’ offense continued to struggle throughout the entire game. In the bottom of the eighth, Mike Moustakas scored Christian Yelich on an RBI single. Later that inning, Erik Kratz scored Orlando Arica on an RBI single to make it a 4-0 ballgame. Jeremy Jeffress, who blew a save just last night, came in and secured the six-out save to secure a Brewers win. Game 3 is set for Sunday in Colorado.
Brewers Top Contributors Thus Far
The Brewers’ offense has been a little shaky so far in the series. The Brewers are currently batting .200 and slugging .286 through the first two games. At the top, Brewers star Christian Yelich is batting .667 with two hits, one homer, and two RBIs. Some of the other Brewers’ big bats (Travis Shaw, Lorenzo Cain, and Jesus Aguilar) all remain hitless so far in the series. The key for the Brewers’ success is to get those big three going to carry momentum into potentially the NLCS and beyond.
