Severino Set To Start Wild Card Game

The AL Wild Card game is set for this Wednesday against the Oakland A’s. This will give an opportunity for Severino to make up for his outing in last year’s Wild Card game against the Twins. Severino was chosen over J.A. Happ and Masahiro Tanaka, who has dominated the last month of the season. Last season was the first postseason appearance in Severino’s career in the eventual Yankees win. On the year, Severino is 19-8 with a 3.39 ERA and 220 strikeouts. On September 5th, Severino lost to Oakland allowing six runs (five earned) and hopes to rebound against a tough A’s lineup.

Wild Card Game Preview

The season series between the A’s and the Yankees is split evenly at three games apiece. The Yankees won two of three at Yankee Stadium and the A’s won two of three at the Coliseum. With the Yankees sending Severino to the mound, the A’s are going with “opener” Liam Hendriks. With the A’s strong bullpen, it’s better for them to not waste a starter should they win and advance tonight. Aaron Judge, Brett Gardner, and Severino look to lead the Yankees past Matt Olson, Matt Chapman, Khris Davis, and the rest of the Oakland A’s. Both sides slug a lot of homers. On a side note, the Yankees finished first in home runs this year and the A’s finished third.

Winner Takes Boston

Awaiting the winner of this game is the top team in all of baseball: the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox have owned the Yankees this season. However, the A’s split the season series with Boston. It doesn’t appear either team will advance past the Red Sox, but the Yankees have a much better chance due to player experience in the postseason. Fans are in for a treat tonight.
