Milwaukee Brewers Clinch First Postseason Berth Since 2011

Last night, the Brewers clinched their first playoff spot since 2011 with a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. It is yet to be determined if the Brewers will host a Wild Card game or if they will be NL Central Champs, but they are certainly an exciting team to watch into October. Jhoulys Chacín went five strong innings allowing one hit, one run, two walks, and had three strikeouts. Chacín improved to 15-8 on the year with a 3.56 ERA. On the other side, the Cardinals starter John Gant went just 4 1/3 innings. The Brewers have closed the gap on the Cubs to just 0.5 GB with four games left to play.

Game Recap

The Brewers did not open up the scoring until the third inning when Travis Shaw singled home Christian Yelich. The Cardinals responded one inning later when Jedd Gyorko hit a sac-fly to score Matt Carpenter. Travis Shaw was at it again in the fifth inning when he singled home Christian Yelich yet again. Jeremy Jeffress came in and pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to secure the Brewers first postseason birth since 2011. The Brewers are now 92-67 on the year while the Cardinals are 87-72 on the year.

The Final 4 Games Of The 2018 Season

The end of the 2018 season in the NL Central is expected to be a good one. With the Cubs and Brewers both clinching a playoff spot, the Cardinals are on the outside looking in. The final playoff spot in the National League will be between the Dodgers and the Cardinals and potentially the Rockies. This season also has the potential to see a game 163 between the runner-up in the West and the Cardinals.

Meanwhile, the Brewers will try to chase down the Cubs, who they trail by a 0.5 game. The Brewers’ magical season will continue into October as they take on the Tigers for the final four-games while the Cubbies battle the Pirates. The Brewers look poised for a deep run in October.
