Yankees Clinch A Playoff Birth With Walk-Off Winner

The Yankees have clinched their spot in October baseball with a wild 3-2 against the Orioles. Aaron Hicks provided the heroics as the Yankees are in the Wild Card game for yet another season. Lance Lynn dominated for the Yankees with five innings of one-run ball. During that time, he struck out four and only walked two in the Yankees win. On the other side, David Hess also went five innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and struck out five. The Yankees improved to 95-59 on the season while the Orioles sit at an MLB-worst, 44-110.

Game Recap

The Yankees struck first with two runs in the second inning. Aaron Hicks belted his 26th homer of the season while Luke Voit hit his 12th long ball. The Orioles got one run back in the third after an RBI from Cedric Mullins. The run resulted from a throwing error by Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez, which allowed Breyvic Valera to score. Orioles rookie DJ Stewart singled in the fifth to tie the game at two apiece in the fifth inning. As the game went into extra innings, Didi Gregorius singled to lead off the eleventh innings. He later scored after Aaron Hicks delivered the game-winning RBI double. The win secured yet another Yankees postseason appearance.

The Brox Bombers Are Ready For October

While the Yankees continue to wait to see who they are playing in the Wild Card game, it is important to note how tough the American League will be. To start, the Yankees will play a winner-take-all game potentially against one of the hottest teams in baseball: the Oakland A’s. If they win that game, they will face the likely number-one seed Boston Red Sox in the division series. The Red Sox have owned the Yankees this season, but with Aaron Judge back in the lineup, the Bronx Bombers stand a much better chance at defeating the best team in the sport. Though they are in a tough spot, the Yankees certainly have the talent to win their 28th World Series title.
