Will The LA Dodgers Miss The Playoffs?
So the playoff race in the N.L. west is extremely close. The Los Angeles Dodgers hold a 0.5 game lead over the Rockies for first place, and the Diamondbacks are still hanging in the race at five games back. It looks a little something like this.
Los Angeles Dodgers —
Colorado Rockies 0.5 GB
Arizona Diamondbacks 5 GB
There is a possibility that the Dodgers, the N.L. favorites coming into this year, could miss the playoffs all together. That is crazy to think about. Imagine if the Golden State Warriors just missed the playoffs. Granted the Dodgers aren’t a super-team, but you can see where I am going. After losing the World Series in seven games to the Houston Astros, even though the Dodgers hold the division lead, they could still be in danger of missing October baseball.
The Reason Why
The Dodgers have two upcoming games with the Rockies. With not many games left, these games are must-wins for both teams. If either team can come away with a win in these two games, they would grab the division lead. However, Los Angeles will have an easy three game series against San Diego. Nevertheless, they will still need take on the Diamondbacks, who are desperately trying to keep up with them. If they lose those games, the Rockies and D-Backs will have all the momentum, and the Dodgers would be at the bottom of the momentum scale. Additionally, with this tight wild card race, they could even fall out of that. But it is really going to depend on these next few games.
