Chicago Cubs Drop Series Opener Against Milwaukee Brewers

Cubs drop series opener against Milwaukee in a 3-2 loss. It’s not the fact that the Cubs loss, its how they loss and the way the Cubs responded to it. Losing is never fun, but losing because of a first-pitch wild pitch with two outs in the inning. Then the Brewers or Josh Hader in specific struck out six consecutive Cubs. And with Terrance Gore on second base with two outs. Tommy LaStella decides to swing at a pitch in the dirt that never made it to home plate. The Cubs are slumping at the wrong time, especially with a crucial series against the Cardinals coming up.

Jon Lester Dominates But Leaves With Lower Back Tightness

Letting up only two runs in 5.2 innings, Jon Lester gave the Cubs more than enough time and opportunity to get back in the lead. In the sixth inning with two outs Jon Lester was taken out of the game. For what was later described as “Lower Back Tightness” which is not a good sign at all. With that type of injury, there is nothing you can do. You can’t throw nor hit, so let’s hope that Jon needs absolutely zero DL time. If he goes down now, so might the Cubs playoff hopes.

Offense Can’t Start To Slump At This Point In The Season

Situational hitting and pitch selection is starting to decline here for the Cubs as of lately. Going 4-6 in their last ten games, a big part of it has to do with the lack of run support from the offense. Cubs have lost a couple of games recently due to poor at-bats and pitch selection. Multiple times last week Cubs hitters have struck out on pitches in the dirt on 3-2 counts with men on. The patience is there, but the pitch selection isn’t. Last nights 9th inning Albert Almora Jr. saw four pitches in his at-bat. The first two were swing and misses away; the third was a foul ball that was high in the zone. The fourth pitch was right down the middle, and he strikes out looking. Cubs hitters aren’t choosing their pitches and are just swinging away. This is the worst time for the Cubs offense to be slumping.
