Dodgers Back In First With Kemp Walk-Off To Take Series Against The D-Backs
The Dodgers are back in first with Kemp’s walk-off to take the series against the D-Backs. For the second night in a row, Matt Kemp came up big for the Dodgers. Two nights ago, Kemp belted a three-run bomb in the eighth inning to put the Dodgers up 3-2, to which the score would stay in their win.
Yesterday, the Dodgers were trailing the Diamondbacks 2-1 in the bottom of the 9th inning. Alex Verdugo and Max Muncy started off the inning with back to back walks, off of Brad Boxberger. Then, Archie Bradley came in to replace Boxberger. Bradley first faced Kike Hernandez who laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt. Next, it was Matt Kemp’s turn. When asked about his at-bat Kemp had this to say,
“When I was walking up to the plate they showed what I did last night,” Kemp said. “He threw a fastball that was pretty much in and I got the barrel on it and made something happen.”
Made something happen he did! Kemp stroked a ball off the Centerfield wall, to score Verdugo and Muncy giving the Dodgers the 3-2 win. Dave Roberts said that Tommy Lasorda told him that Saturday night’s game was the loudest he had ever heard Dodger Stadium. I can only imagine the decibel level yesterday, after Kemp’s walk-off! According to Cody Bellinger,
“That’s why we call him Hollywood”… “He likes the big moments.”
Matt Kemp picked the right time to come up with these “big moments” or as Dave Roberts would say,
“Two of the biggest hits of the year for us”
Dodgers Coming Back Into First
The Dodgers had a little slump and were 4 1/2 games back as of August 22nd. However, they have gone 8-1 in their last nine games and are now back on top of the National League West for the first time since August 7th. Taking the series from the Diamondbacks and bumping them out of first place was icing on the cake for Dodger fans this series and made Labor Day weekend that much more enjoyable for Dodger Nation.
