Cubs Sweep The Minnesota Twins Right Out Of Chicago

Playing very offensive style baseball the past couple of games. The Cubs are roaring back after hitting a five-game skid. By winning four games in a row, and scoring more than ten runs in each game. And The Cubs were able to sweep the Minnesota Twins right out of Chicago. Albeit the pitching could have been a lot better, however, when it’s that hot out. A fan has to expect that sort of outcome in a game. Especially after looking at Lester’s start, who gave up four runs and two earned. Jon Lester in his last five starts had not given up more than two runs. So, I think that’s an excellent testament to how well players were hitting.

Jon Lester, Shaky But Still Gets The Win

Jon Lester this season has been many things, but a power hitter isn’t one of them.  Coming into today’s game, Jon Lester had a career AVG of .093 and just one career home run. In the bottom of the second inning, Jon Lester smashed, and I mean absolutely murdered this baseball 406 ft to center field. It was indeed a spectacle to see live, and I missed it. Lester on the mound was a different story. It wasn’t bad, but it could have been better. Going 5 IP giving up nine hits on four runs and two earned. The ERA on the season rose about 10 points to a 2.25 which is still an excellent ERA to have. Jon also won his seventh consecutive start, which matches a career high for Jon.

Offense Shows Off Yet Again And Scores 11 Runs

What can I say about this offense the past four games? The Cubs offense has been the complete package, not only hitting a lot of home runs, but also by many base hits. It’s good to see diversity and consistency in the offense. Granted any team could hit like The Cubs have on any hot summer day. However, it’s being able to produce such high amounts of scoring for four straight games that impressed me the most. Now hopefully it doesn’t turn back into a famine driven offense. Javier Baez is continuing his hot hitting streak adding two more RBIs to his overall total best for third in the league. Ian Happ also had a great game going 3-4 with one run batted in and two runs scored. Let’s hope the offense can keep this up and go into the ASB on a hot streak.

Player Of The Game

Player of the game would have to go to Jon Lester who had the pivotal three-run home run that started The Cubs eight-run second inning. Jon also pitched well enough so The Cubs can keep the lead and eventually win the game. Jon helped himself on both sides of the ball today, and it’s always good to see a pitcher help his cause. Which was The Cubs to sweep the Minnesota Twins right out of Chicago.
