Cubs Split Final Season Series, But Win Season Series 4 Games To 3

After getting throttled most of the game on Wednesday, The Cubs came into the series finale looking to split the final season series between the two teams. Going down by three early never worried this team at all. Scoring a whopping 11 runs in today’s game, The Cubs have again given us another glimpse of what they could be. Jose Quintana struggled… somewhat, giving up three runs on the day gave The Cubs a chance when they went down early.

Jose Quintana Struggles Early But Doesn’t Give In

Like I said earlier, Quintana struggled early but didn’t break. Giving up three runs in three innings, The Dodgers came out hot. Jose Quintana held his ground and pitched around all the traffic. The most impressive part to me was that he pitched against Clayton Kershaw. Arguably one of the best pitchers to ever play the game, and he held his own against him. Going 5.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB and 4 SO. Most of his troubles came in the first inning, facing six batters in the first inning. And Quintana let a single runner come across the plate. Quintana has been very consistent in his production all season. And with the way he has been keeping the earned runs down to at least 3-4 runs. Which is a decent number that gives your team a fighting chance to win.

Cubs Offense Implodes On The Dodgers

The Cubs were pretty much-sitting ducks the whole time Kershaw was in the game. However, the second he came out The Cubs beat up the Dodgers pen for seven runs in the seventh inning. The two victims being Walker Buehler and Erik Goeddel, both relief pitchers for The Dodgers. Anthony Rizzo is the one who blew the game wide open with a three-run double, which was immediately followed by an Addison Russell two-run home run. This team like I said is either feast or famine, and it was another prime example of that today.

Player Of The Game

Player of the game could go to many people on the offense. However, the one person who deserves it more than the rest is Addison Russell. Russell has struggled to find an identity so far this season. Not hitting for power, or being a consistent on-base guy. Hitting his fourth home run in today’s game, Russell is looking to turn up the power and start cranking some home runs. You do know what they say? “Home runs come in bunches.” And hopefully, for Addi, they come sooner than later.
