Cubs Comeback Against The Pirates In An 8-6 Victory

Momentum is one of the biggest things in the game of Baseball. If you even let your foot off the gas, your lead can turn into a deficit. And that is exactly what the Cubs had to deal with today against The Pittsburgh Pirates going down early 3-0. However, the team was calm and kept their heads in the game. Critical situational hitting led to The Cubs comeback, and The Cubs wouldn’t have won without it. Jon Lester was shaky in today’s start, giving up the three runs early. Lester has had a good season so far, and don’t think its anything to look over.

Jon Lester Shaky, But Helps His Own Cause

Jon wasn’t at his sharpest in today’s start, but he was quite effective at the plate. Going 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Lester played a key part in the offense, for instance, the base hit he got after Heyward had popped out on a 3-2 count. Allowed Ben Zobrist to get The Cubs on the board with a two-run home run. Also hitting a line drive single to right field scoring Jason Heyward from second base. On the pitching side of things, it could have gone better for Jon. Giving up four runs on eight hits, but oddly enough didn’t walk a single batter in his start. So, with the addition of walks, it could have been a lot worse for Jon if he had let up any walks.

Offense Once Again Lights Up The Scoreboard

After throttling the Pirates yesterday, The Cubs had no plan on stopping there. Scoring eight runs on fourteen hits today after scoring seven runs on twelve hits the game before, and scoring eight runs on thirteen hits the game before that. Tells me this Cubs offense is about to hit a hot streak and it’s going to be interesting. The only real question is; how well will the starting pitching hold up? If the starters can play three-run ball a game, I would feel confident about The Cubs moving forward into the season. However. That is a lot to ask for, even after The Cubs comeback today it’s not going to happen every time.

Player Of The Game

For the first time I am naming, Ben Zobrist as player of the game. His two-run home run to get The Cubs on the board was a huge momentum booster. And I believe woke the offense and got the ball rolling. Going 2-5 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a walk. Ben Zobrist had a heck of a day and in my books is deserving of Player Of The Game.
