The Dodgers Are Picking Up Steam

The Dodgers Take The Rockies Series

Last night, the Dodgers beat the Rockies 3-0, to take the series. The Dodgers are picking up steam with the help of Kenta Maeda who pitched a gem. Maeda looked awesome as he allowed zero runs scored and struck out a season-high twelve batters, in six and two-thirds innings pitched. Pedro Baez and Scott Alexander came in for relief and Kenley Jansen closed out the game to secure the save, each with scoreless innings.

On the offensive side, to start, Logan Forsythe drilled a ground rule double down the left field line, in the fourth inning, to bring home Justin Turner. Followed by, Yasiel Puig who grounded into a fielder’s choice at short. This got Forsythe into a rundown where he eventually got tagged out. However, Puig showed some major hustle and made a heads-up play during the pickle by breaking safely to second base. During all of this, Kike Hernandez was able to score the Dodgers’ second run. Lastly, Matt Kemp hit a sac-fly to drive in the Dodgers’ third and last run of the game in the fifth.

The Dodgers Are Picking Up Steam: Here’s How…

With the Dodgers taking the Rockies series, it looks like the Dodgers are picking up steam! The Dodgers win last night was their fifth win in the last six games and second winning series in a row. The Dodgers are now currently only 3.5 games back of first place, in the National League West.

Despite all of the Dodger injuries, players are starting to step up both offensively and defensively. Defensively, obviously, last night Maeda pitched awesome. However, actually, Maeda’s last two starts have been simply amazing. He has given up zero runs in each start and has pitched into the seventh and eighth innings. Maeda also has the most wins for a Dodgers starter this season with 4. Further, Ross Stripling has thus far been delivering as he’s transitioned into the starter role. Stripling overall has just a 2.08 ERA. In addition, rookie starter Walker Buehler has pitched beautifully since being called up with a 2.38 ERA and 40 strikeouts. One can’t forget Josh Fields either. Fields has been simply fantastic this season as a reliever with just a 1.88 ERA.  Lastly, Kenley Jansen is looking like the closer of old as he has 5 saves in the last 7 games, with a 0.00 ERA.

Offensively, Matt Kemp has been solid all season. Overall, Kemp has a .327 average but has been hitting a stellar .455 over the last 7 games, with 5 doubles and 5 RBIs. In addition, Yasiel Puig is starting to pick things up. During his last 7 games, Puig is batting .375, with 3 home runs and 6 RBI’s. Further, Joc Pederson has been gaining momentum and has had a .333 average, with 3 doubles and a triple in his last 7 games. Lastly, Justin Turner has been a great help since returning from the disabled list. Turner has been batting .303 with 3 doubles, 5 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

Next Up…

Tomorrow, the Dodgers start a three-game home series against the San Diego Padres. Like the Dodgers, the Padres have also gone 6-4 in their last 10 games and both teams are at the bottom of the division. However, with the way things are going, that might last for too much longer.
