Tyler Reddick Signed by 23XI Racing for 2024 NASCAR Season

In a bizarre twist of events, the first shoe has dropped for 2024 silly season. Coming off of his first career Cup Series win, Tyler Reddick is vacating the No. 8 team at Richard Childress Racing. After next season, Reddick will jump ship to 23XI Racing. The two-time Xfinity Series champion will move from the historic Chevrolet team to the young Toyota operation.

Leading into his maiden victory at Road America, RCR picked up Reddick’s option for 2023. As a result, the man who won the 2019 Xfinity Series title with RCR will have one last hurrah in the 8 after 2022.

“I’m thrilled to have the chance to join this team and look forward to how I can contribute to the organization,” said Tyler Reddick. “23XI has accomplished a lot in the less than two full seasons they’ve been in the garage, and I can’t wait to be a part of that continued success. Until then, my focus remains on my current team, winning races and being competitive.”

“Tyler is one of the most sought-after young drivers and has been competitive in everything he’s raced,” said Team Co-Owner, Denny Hamlin. “His work on the track speaks for itself and he will make a fantastic addition to our lineup in 2024. The team has seen a lot of growth since our first race and signing Tyler is a great next step for us to remain competitive for years to come.”

In less than two years of existence, the Michael Jordan/Denny Hamlin-owned 23XI Racing has certainly made their Cup Series presence known. Their first season last year saw Bubba Wallace take the team’s first victory at Talladega in October. This year, the expansion team of Kurt Busch’s No. 45 earned the win at Kansas. It is currently unknown if Reddick will replace either driver, or move into a third car.

Where does this leave Reddick now with Richard Childress Racing? Not unlike the end of Kevin Harvick’s tenure here, RCR has over a year of lame duck status with Reddick. In Harvick’s final season at RCR, this team won four times and finished third in points. RCR did state that their focus remains on winning the 2022 and 2023 championships. Reddick has been close to many wins this year, so don’t expect that to change in 2022.

While no clear candidate is available for the 8 car, both Austin Hill and Sheldon Creed are in the RCR Xfinity stable. However, many drivers will likely be possible fits for this team. RCR does have well over a year to find the right combination. Just how will Reddick perform now in the 8 over the next year-and-a-half? How will he do in his initial starts with Toyota? All of these questions will be answered in due time.
