Truex Is Ready To Do Battle At Martinsville

Martin Truex, Jr. has 19 wins in his Cup Series career. Of those wins, none have come at a track less than a mile in distance. As he looks to check off career win number 20, the focus shifts toward Martinsville Speedway. In fact, in recent races at ‘the paperclip,’ Martin has just missed checking a short track off his bucket list.

In the last 3 races at Martinsville, Truex hasn’t finished worse than 4th. Just last November he was the leader heading into the final turn, but a bump from Joey Logano resulted in a third-place finish. Following that run in Martin told NBC Sports, “He may have won the battle, but he ain’t winning the d–n war.” This weekend, it’s all about the battle and Truex is ready to finaly claim the victory.

“We’ve certainly got some unfinished business going into Martinsville this weekend,’’ Truex told NASCAR. “It’s a place that wasn’t one of my favorites early in my career. But the last few years, I feel like I’ve really started to get a handle on it.”

“A lot of that can be attributed to having a really good crew chief and driving fast cars,” said Truex. “It would mean a lot to win there, especially after how the last race there ended up. I’m confident that we’ll have a fast SiriusXM Toyota Camry this weekend and be right there to have a shot at the end of the race.”

As we look ahead to this weekend’s race at Martinsville, there’s no doubt that Truex will be a contender. The real question now becomes, will he be an aggressor? Many felt he raced Logano way too clean last fall. Will he change the way he races to finally score that first career short track win?
